YSIF ‘18 Speakers


Dr. Jonathan Woetzel

Dr. Jonathan Woetzel is a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company. He is also the Asia-based Director of the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), the business and economics research arm of McKinsey, global leader of McKinsey’s Cities Special Initiative and co-chair of the Urban China Initiative. He co-founded McKinsey’s China practice and has been resident in Shanghai for 22 years.

Jonathan is an expert on energy, sustainability, and economic master planning. He has advised national governments in Asia on improving the environment for foreign investors, supported the development of national energy policies, and advised national and local government authorities on economic development. He actively serves urban authorities in the Middle East, China, Russia, India and North America on economic master planning and performance improvement.


Funa Li

Funa Li is the current President of ABC (A Better Community), a pro bono consulting social enterprise that provides services to the social sector in China, including NGOs, foundations and fellow social enterprises. Funa first joined the ABC team as a volunteer in 2013. Before working at ABC full time in August 2017, Funa was a member of the Cathay Pacific Airways management team, where she rotated to seven departments in eight years. This has given her a wide range of management experience including passenger sales, revenue management, network planning, airport operations, aircraft interior products and HR. She has worked with Cathay in Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo. Travel has been a constant passion in her life, starting from her early days growing up in Bergen, Norway and Beijing. Funa holds a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Hong Kong.


Kai Dai

Kai Dai is the country director of Young Sustainable Impact (YSI) China. His experiences in the United Nations, venture capital, think tanks, and startups have enriched his perspectives in sustainable development and entrepreneurship. As a traveler who has been to 28 countries, Kai is also interested in bringing cultural elements to innovation.

Taranpreet Singh

Taranpreet Singh is a seasoned entrepreneur and investor from India, with more than 5 years of experience across the globe with organizations such as the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank, and Microsoft Accelerator. He has been an advocate for sustainable development throughout his life and is also an alum of YSIF '17, where his venture was awarded the prize for “Most Investable Idea."

Taranpreet is serving as an ambassador of the wider YSIF alumni network at YSIF ‘18.


Andrew Tsui Ka

Andrew Tsui Ka is a social entrepreneur and passionate about innovation and urban solutions. He embarked on social entrepreneurship 7 years ago and co-founded Rooftop Republic, a social enterprise and relational platform that aims to revolutionize urban food ecosystems, to push circular economy. and to reconnect communities within cities. Their team has transformed over 50,000 square feet of urban underutilized space into productive landscapes ranging across urban farms, vertical greens, indoor farming, and AgriTech developments. Andrew has also served as speaker, mentor and facilitator for initiatives on innovation, design thinking and sustainability since 2011. He has been in management and leadership capacities across sectors, including Military and Security, Supply Chains, Healthcare and Wellness. and Asset Management in Singapore, Hong Kong. and China, respectively. Andrew has been awarded “Outstanding Social Enterprise (Meritorious Award)” and “Outstanding Innovation Award” by the Hong Kong SAR Home Affairs Bureau.


Xueshan Zhang

Xueshan Zhang is the president and board member of SEED for Social Innovation. Previously working as a data scientist in Microsoft Cambridge U.S., Xueshan received a Master in Data Science from Harvard and a Bachelor in Mathematics from Peking University. Xueshan has become SEED’s president in 2017 and been based in Beijing since then. She is dedicated in empowering Chinese young social innovators and facilitating cross-boundary collaboration among social, business, technology, and cultural sectors for a common goal to SEED a Better China.

Yi Jun Mock

Yi Jun serves as Project Leader, Networks of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network - Youth Initiative (SDSN Youth), managing both the Membership and SDG Students Programs. He has advocated for youth involvement in achieving the SDGs at major international fora like the Vatican Youth Symposium, the UN SDG Action Campaign Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development, and the UN-Habitat World Urban Forum. Yi Jun is a Queen’s Young Leader, Global Shaper, and Youth Environment Envoy with Singapore’s National Environment Agency.

Prakhar Khanduja

Prakhar is a seasoned tech entrepreneur from India. He built companies in recruitment, livestreaming, content/social space. His last two companies InstaLively and Pulse were acquired by Hike Messenger(Tencent)After leading Product Growth at Hike Messenger in India he joined Holla Group as VP Product and Strategy at their Beijing office. Lately he has been helping/consulting with companies and various TMT funds with India and SEA expansion. Prakhar is also one of the most active evangelist of China India Startups interaction, and he runs the largest Chindia startup community.


Jade Diep

Born and raised in Melbourne, Jade Diep is the Co-Founder and CEO of China Product Placement, a media and marketing company that specialises in collaborations with Chinese entertainment, and services companies breaking in and out of China. CPP has worked with health and lifestyle brands, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), sustainable development projects by Trina Solar, the launch of global operations for China’s most acclaimed film and comedy company Kaixin Mahua, as well as the media and KOL campaign for the Republic of Turkey at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. In 2017, CPP raised investment from Israel-US fund Founders Group and is developing a mobile app for Chinese consumers and global brands, that applies machine learning and deep market experience to create a sales pipeline from film and TV to e-commerce. In 2019, Jade will also be launching a new health supplement and lifestyle brand with her best friend and actress in China.


Heyu Huang

Heyu Huang is a Venture Partner of Fresco Capital and is involved in all aspects of investment and operations. Previously, Heyu was an early team member of Airbnb China and was responsible for cross-functional aspects of business strategy and local operations across San Francisco, China, and Singapore offices. Heyu is a member of the founding class of Minerva Project and holds a master degree of Applied Economics at National University of Singapore. She is also very passionate about social innovation and impact, and is the founder of “Max Lab”, an interdisciplinary lab using creativity to explore the complex system of cities. Moreover, she is the mentor of Laudato Si' Challenge at Rome in 2017.


Jeffrey Towson

Dr. Jeff Towson is a private equity investor, Peking University professor, best-selling author and keynote speaker. His writing and speaking are on digital China. Nicknamed China’s “celebrity professor”, Jeff is the #1 followed professor in China on LinkedIn (+2.9M followers). He was the #1 LinkedIn Top Voice for Finance globally (2017) and #3 for China overall (2018). He is also one of Alibaba’s 15 “Global Influencers” (2017, 2018). Jeff is a frequent speaker at companies, conferences and universities around the world. He has been seen on CGTN, CBS News, ABC and other programs. His investment / advisory work is in healthcare, primarily in the US and China / Asia. His latest books are the One Hour China Book and the One Hour China Consumer Book. Both were (are) Amazon best-sellers. Jeff lives in Beijing and Las Vegas. He is a huge fan of Starbucks and Marvel. And as an ex-Burger King employee, he can make over 100 hamburgers in an hour.


Jonathan Rechtman

Jonathan Rechtman is a Chinese-English simultaneous interpreter, bilingual host, communications coach, entrepreneur, and investor. Based in China for over a decade, he has interpreted for multiple presidents and prime ministers, Fortune 500 CEOs, Hollywood stars, Nobel prize winners, and a princess. He is a cofounder of Cadence Translate and a venture partner at iAsk Capital. Jonathan is the official event host and MC for conferences including the APEC CEO China Forum, TEDxBeijing, Reach China, and She Loves Tech, and serves as a public speaking and communications coach to C-suite executives at leading Chinese multinationals. He is a member of the Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum; the founding initiator of Attitude of Gratitude; a mentor at Chinaccelerator; and a visiting instructor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, the University of Ottawa, and the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing (UIBE).

Lynn Chen

Lynn Chen is a new core member of the MyH2O water information network. (Founded by Charlene Ren, MyH2O’s mission is to provide solutions to clean drinking water in rural China by connecting clean water resources to rural communities.) Lynn is leading the transformation of the organization to a digital and data-driven one. Her vision is to help MyH2O grow and scale its impact in sourcing clean water solutions through crowdsourcing data and standardizing the process of problem-to-solution lifecycle. Previously, Lynn served as the director for data analytics at the Patient Access Network Foundation based on Washington, D.C. Lynn earned her Master’s in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from George Mason University. As a life coach practitioner, she advocates for work-life balance and the practice of mindfulness intervention.


Tan Lin

Tan Lin is the CEO of Microsoft Accelerator. With more than 20 years of experience in IT companies, he is an expert in business development and product localization as well as an innovator with practical and early investment experience in local and international startups. Familiar with entrepreneurship methodology and business model planning, he also has a deep insight of the business model of forward-looking technology companies. Tan Lin has been serving as the CEO of Microsoft Accelerator in Beijing since February 2018. He used to be a researcher at Peking University's Smart City Research Center. He has also served as General Manager of CA Greater China, Director of BI/EPM Channels in Greater China, Marketing Director of Apple China, etc.

Zang Feng

ZANG Feng is Principal and Founding Partner of PAO/PIDO. Originally from Lanzhou, China, ZANG Feng is a Registered Architect in China. He has a Bachelor in Architecture and received his Master of Architecture from the Graduate Center of Architecture, Peking University. He is an Outstanding Contribution Talent of xicheng district, Beijing

Beijing-based People's Architecture Office(PAO)/People's Industrial Design Office(PIDO) was founded by He Zhe, James Shen and Zang Feng in 2010, and consists of a multi-disciplinary team of architects, engineers, product designers and urbanists. With the belief that design is for the masses the studio focuses on social impact through design. PAO/PIDO is the first architecture practice in Asia certified as a B-Corporation and serves as a model for social entrepreneurship.

The office is located in an historic courtyard house in the center of Beijing and functions as a laboratory for observation, testing, and building; producing work that has been honored with multiple Architizer A+ Awards and Red Dot Awards and the World Architecture Festival Award. The studio’s works have been shown at the Venice Architecture Biennale, Rotterdam International Architecture Biennale, the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and has been exhibited in cities including New York, London, Milan, Seoul, and Hong Kong.


Cindy Gottinger

Cindy Gottinger is the client lead at Google responsible for increasing marketing efficiency and effectiveness of large MNC in China. Recognised by the technology industry as a young leader in her field, Cindy possesses an appetite to explore new markets and gain deeper insights into the evolving trends of Chinese consumers.

With over fifteen years involvement in the Australia China community, Cindy continues to be an active participant both in Australia and China. She is currently the Executive Director of Australia China Young Professional Initiative (ACYPI) in Greater China where she successfully established a platform for young professionals to engage in bilateral discussions and exchange.

As an experienced presenter fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and German, Cindy is frequently invited to emcee and moderate a variety of business and community events both in Australia and China including most recently Australia China Alumni Awards in 2014 and 2015.

Before joining Google, Cindy was a brand manager at Volkswagen Group China where she was responsible for building the brand Skoda for Chinese consumers. Before moving to Beijing, Cindy was an international business development manager at China Radio International, where she managed the expansion of Chinese media properties both domestically and abroad. Cindy has also worked in the Private Wealth Management division at Goldman Sachs JB Were.

Cindy graduated from Monash University in Australia with a Bachelor of Commerce and Arts majoring in economics, Chinese and German. Cindy is the Chief Evangelist at Ladies Who Tech.
